The Importance Of Tire Changeovers

Learn what you need to know about tire changeovers, including when to change your tires, what tires are best for which seasons, and other tire maintenance tips.

What Is A Tire Changeover?

A tire changeover is when you change your tires. There are many reasons to change a tire. Maybe it’s punctured, it’s tread depth has worn out, or it has ruptured. Maybe the weather is changing. Or maybe you just want a change.

November Is A Great Time For A Tire Changeover

When the Halloween decorations come down, that is a great time to schedule a tire changeover. While some call them “snow tires”, this term is not totally accurate. That’s because winter tires are about more than just snow.

In Hamilton, we might not get any significant snowfall until January. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t switch your tires in mid-November. All-season tires and summer tires can’t grip the road properly in temperatures as mild as seven degrees Celsius.

We routinely dip below this temperature on October nights. At this temperature, the rubber compounds stiffen and can’t provide the traction you need. Both winter tires and all-weather tires can provide the proper traction you need from mid-autumn until mid-spring.

Mid-Spring Is Another Good Time For A Tire Changeover.

Driving on all-weather or winter tires all year isn’t a safety hazard, but it is still not your best option. Driving on snow tires all year can reduce your mileage and cause wheel misalignments. Over time, you can save money by switching to all-season or summer tires in warm weather and to winter or all-weather tires in cold weather.

Some People Change Their Tires Every June.

Some drivers like to drive on high-performance summer tires for hot weather. These tires are especially popular with drivers of luxury vehicles. Summer tires can offer the best driving experience from June to September.

You Will Need A Tire Changeover When Your Tire Tread Wears Out.

Even if you change your tires four times a year and drive safely and never exceed the speed limit, your tires will still wear out, eventually. Depending on how deep the treads are, most tires can last for 60,000km–100,000km.

Punctures, Tears, And Ruptures

If your tire sustains damage, you will need a tire changeover. Some drivers are comfortable putting on their own spare, but if not, or you don’t have a spare, or more than one tire is damaged, you can come to Downtown Auto Specialist. We would be glad to change your tires for you.

Sometimes, You Just Want A Change.

Maybe your tires are fine, but they are just not the right tires for your vehicle and driving style. At Downtown Auto Specialist, we have a wide range of tire models and tire brands available.
